How to get there

Airport:
Travelers coming from abroad can fly into Lisbon or Porto, both of which offer convenient options for reaching Coimbra. Faro Airport is another possibility, though less commonly used. There are efficient train and shuttle services connecting these cities to Coimbra.
Train:
Frequent and reliable train services run from Lisbon (1h30/2h) and Porto (1h) to Coimbra. For the fastest and most comfortable option, take the Alfa Pendular or Intercidades trains.
Shuttle:
The Coimbra Airport Shuttle provides a convenient door-to-door service between Lisbon Airport (~45€) or Porto Airport (~40€) and Coimbra.
Bus/Taxi:
Coimbra is easily accessible via the A1 motorway. You can also arrive by taxi or take a bus through Rede Expressos, both of which offer quick and efficient connections.

Astória Hotel
Located in an iconic, historic property, the Astória is conveniently located near the river and within walking distance of the meeting venue. While the hotel offers modern comforts, it is especially appealing for those who appreciate architecture and history, as its décor and style have remained largely unchanged.

Vila Galé Coimbra
The Vila Galé Hotel is a modern hotel overlooking the Mondego River. It offers comfortable rooms, and indoor and outdoor pools. It’s a short walk from the train station and within a short bus distance from the meeting venue.
Venue – Convento São Francisco

The European Social Club 2025 Meeting will be held at Convento São Francisco in Coimbra. This is a historic cultural venue that was originally built in the 17th century as a Franciscan convent. After extensive renovations, it reopened as a modern cultural center. The building blends its rich history with contemporary architecture, making it a unique space for both locals and visitors. Located along the Mondego River, it is an important landmark in the city, offering stunning views and a deep connection to Coimbra’s cultural heritage.
What to do
After the social activity (9-13h) and lunch (13-14:30h) on June 11, the afternoon is free, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore Coimbra and enjoy some local experiences. Here are a few suggestions:

- Visit the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can learn more and purchase tickets here. Please note that visits to the University of Coimbra require booking a specific time slot in advance. If you are interested, we recommend securing your preferred time as soon as possible.
- Take a scenic boat trip on the river with Basófias. More information here.
- Visit Conímbriga Roman Ruins. More information here. To reach Conímbriga, we recommend sharing an Uber/Taxi with colleagues. The cost is approximately €15–20 per ride.
